Prince Muqrin bin Abdul-Aziz al-Saud, flew to Afghanistan earlier this week on behalf of King Abdullah of Saudia Arabia, according to the Afghan government.

The Prince, who commands one of the Middle East’s most significant intelligence agencies with a long history of involvement in Afghanistan, met President Hamid Karzai and other senior politicians, including Burhanuddin Rabbani, the opposition leader.

A spokesman for Mr Rabbani confirmed that his talks with Prince Muqrin had centred on possible peace talks with armed insurgents. It was not clear whether Prince Muqrin met any representatives of the Taliban during his visit. (Telegraph)
