UK forms new security body, weighs financial crisis
Britain formed a new security committee on Monday and immediately asked it to assess the security implications of the global financial crisis.
The group, bringing together experts on policing, counter-terrorism, intelligence, finance and diplomacy, will meet every two months and provide analysis to national security decision-makers, officials said.
“Modern day national security issues such as counter-terrorism, organised crime and civil emergencies require independent thinkers who can bring a new perspective to national security policy,” said Admiral Alan West, a senior adviser to the government on security and chairman of the 12-member group, called the National Security Forum.
